I-Wave Therapy in Oncology

What is hyperthermia and can it help in the treatment of cancer, as well as musculoskeletal and pain?

Earlier this month, our office purchased an I-wave hyperthermia machine for treating our cancer patients and people with joint, spine, and nerve pain. The advanced technology of this device provides the ability to heat internal tissues (tumors, damaged ligaments/tendons, etc) to 108-112 degrees Fahrenheit without pain or risk of burning the skin. Depth of treatment effects are up to 6 inches. Local effects of hyperthermia treatment include a 1500% increase in the local blood circulation.

Cancer therapy

In combination with conventional chemotherapy, radiation or natural cancer therapies, local hyperthermia has been shown to provide the following benefits:

  1. Breaks apart the cancer cellular proteins which leads to cancer cell death.
  2. Disrupts the cellular membrane of the cancer cells which stimulates immune response.
  3. Increases the permeability of tumor blood vessels which makes it easier for chemo drugs and natural cancer therapies to penetrate and accumulate in the tumor tissue.
  4. Directly kills cancer stem cells due to the extreme temperatures while not harming the healthy (non-cancerous) cells.
  5. Stimulates the adaptive immune system and enhances the recognition and destruction of cancer cells.

Musculoskeletal Pain and injuries

Hyperthermia helps improve the effectiveness of prolotherapy, PRP, Wharton's Jelly, and all regenerative orthopedic injections by:

  • Improving regional blood flow by 1500%.
  • Attracts stem cells and fibroblasts to injured tissue for tissue regeneration.
  • Increases cellular metabolic rate
  • Decreases local inflammation
  • Improves removal of cellular waste and detoxification of tissue
  • Enhances tendon and ligament strength and flexibility.

Local hyperthermia is indicated for the following conditions:

  • Carpal tunnel and plantar fasciitis
  • Shoulder: Rotator cuff injuries including partial thickness tears, bursitis, etc.
  • Low back and neck pain: Degenerative discs, bulging discs, and spinal stenosis
  • Spinal cord injuries, sciatica
  • Knee and Hip: Osteoarthritis (bone on bone), bursitis, torn ligaments and tendons
  • Achilles tendonitis, acute ankle sprains
  • Improved recovery from injury, surgery
  • Tennis and golfer's elbow
